In the Mix…A Hole in One for Oakbrook

The Ryder Cup comes to Chicagoland next month, and to commemorate this great sporting event, the PGA of America opened the first-ever “Ryder Cup Exhibit...Where Legends are Forged and Legacies are Made” at Oakbrook Center. In just three days the LCWA team worked with representatives from the PGA and Ryder Cup to plan and execute a newsworthy grand opening event. With Oakbrook Center’s park-like setting in the foreground and sports legends Scottie Pippen and Stan Mikita in attendance, the ribbon cutting event was a success. LCWA helped to coordinate speakers, including representatives from Oakbrook Center and the Village of Oak Brook. In tandem with the Ryder Cup’s PR team, LCWA helped to drive media attention to the exhibit, open now through September 30 at Oakbrook Center.

With the back-to-school season in full swing, this week was all about continued learning and professional development. From grammar lessons to relationship building skills, we went back to school and enjoyed lessons in these subjects:

  • Social Studies: It looks like we weren’t the only ones who found it strange that Justin Bieber had more “Klout” than President Barack Obama. Klout unveiled a new scoring system this week that also takes real world influence into account. And in case you’re wondering, Obama’s Klout score now outranks Bieber’s, 99 to 91.
  • Design: Sometimes it’s hard to tell you’re in a rut and in need of a creative boost. PR Daily looks at seven signs that say you’re PR plans might need refreshing.
  • Grammar: We all like to consider ourselves wordsmiths, but it’s never a bad idea to get back to basics with a grammar lesson. Here’s “34 redundant, repetitive, and superfluous phrases” that you should never use in PR writing.
  • Math: Facebook added four news metrics to Insights this week, including fan impressions. Read what other metrics social media managers can now use to help measure success.
  • Speech: PR is all about building relationships, but sometimes it can be hard to jump the hurdle between being just someone who pitches and a valuable information source. Here are some tips on how to build better relationships with media contacts.

In the Mix…Diving into Digital with Trex

This week, we’re spreading the word to editors and reporters about our client Trex Company’s new Deck Color Visualizer tool. Available for complimentary download from the Apple iTunes App Store, the tool assists homeowners in exploring deck color options and sharing their ideas with others. This is just one way Trex is “decking out” its digital footprint. With a robust Facebook community already in place, we also recently helped Trex expand its presence to Pinterest – offering fun, inspirational ideas to the site’s 10 million-plus users. We’re excited to share this news with home and garden editors, as well as social media and technology writers – and can’t wait to hear what they think!

In the Mix...LCWA Clients Visit Meredith Editors

As one of the top PR agencies specializing in home products, we love Des Moines – which serves as headquarters of media conglomerate Meredith Corporation  and its flagship title, Better Homes & Gardens. This week, we headed west across the Mississippi with clients Pergo, Vermont Castings, Snow Joe and Jarden Safety and Security for the LCWA Home Product Preview. We met with Meredith editors from dozens of titles to discuss upcoming projects, potential product features and photos shoots, as well as key home industry trends. We capped off our visit with a tour of the impressive Meredith headquarters – complete with a walk through the Better Homes & Gardens Test Garden and a peek into the historic Test Kitchen. All in all, it was great to see some of our favorite editors face-to-face and a wonderful way to share information about our top brands with some of the home industry’s most influential people – and we are excited to continue our great relationship with Meredith Corporation!
